PUBLIC APPEALS
Today, on 6 July 2026, the Peaceful Russia party, together with the French association A Farewell to Arms!, sent an open letter to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
In our appeal, we expressed serious concern regarding the 21st sanctions package against Russia, specifically the proposal to impose a complete ban on entry into the EU for all persons who have served in the Russian army. We called on the European Commission to include clear humanitarian exemptions in the sanctions package for Russian deserters and conscientious objectors who have actively participated in anti-war activities.
Without such exemptions, tens of thousands of people who have already fled conscription and persecution would be put at risk, potentially left without protection or the possibility of finding refuge in Europe. We are convinced that such a measure would not weaken the regime, but would only send the message that resistance is futile.
